Phoenix and a road trip (part one)

I recently returned from the most amazing vacation.  That needs to be capitalized, actually, so let’s call it The Most Amazing Vacation – two weekends in Phoenix and the days between on a road trip through some of the incredible scenery in Arizona and Utah.  I took, oh, far too many photos, and experienced a sensory overload of sensational views, so I am going to split this into at least six posts.

On the Friday I flew into Phoenix in the early afternoon.  Don, Steve, and Paula picked me up at the airport.  After dropping my bags off at the hotel we hung around Don’s studio for a bit and then went for a walk around downtown Phoenix.  Obviously we took some photographs…

Project 52 – Spotlight ~ BC Pet Photography

This week the theme for Project 52 was Spotlight.

I took my old boy, Caiman, out to the garage studio and set up my lights. We played around with several different light set ups and combinations, and I got quite a few photos that I am really pleased with. I’m only going to share the ones that fit the Spotlight theme today, but I expect you will see the others another time. In the end he got tired of sitting for me (he has a bad back, and is getting very wobbly, so even for liver he is only cooperative for so long) and we called it a day. I had some more lighting ideas that we will just have to try again later.

Basil ~ Squamish area Pet Photographer

Basil (that would be Mr. June to you) was a last minute addition to my 2013 calendar lineup. Like most vizslas he is wiggly, energetic, willing, glossy, and wonderfully photogenic. He also appears to be a pretzel-dog, as you can see in the photos, bending himself in ways most dogs don’t.

And just look at the wrinkles on his forehead – aren’t they to die for?

Library photo exhibition ~ Squamish Valley Photo Club

The Squamish Valley Photo Club is holding an exhibit in the Squamish library foyer in December. We were all asked to submit the photo that we considered to be The Best of 2012.

I had a difficult time choosing one photo that I thought could be “The Best” one of the year for me. In the end this one won, mostly because the effect is exactly what I was hoping to get when I set up my lights. Also, this is a good photo of my dog, Caiman, and I am rarely happy with the photos I take of him.

There is an opening reception at the library tomorrow (December 5th) from 6-8pm, and the display will be up for the rest of the month. Please come by and check it out!
